Why would God send us, or anyone, as missionaries to Tennessee…a beautiful vacation spot with a church building on every corner?
I’ve wondered the same thing.
And shouldn’t all missionaries go to Africa? Or Asia? Or somewhere else beyond the sea?
At one point during these last 5 years, I thought we might.
But we’re not. We’re going to Tennessee.
Because God has told us to go there. And that’s all the reason we need, really.
He is sending us there to “open their eyes.”
Like most of the south, there is a lot of religion and not enough Jesus. I saw a poll recently showing the highest accounts of internet searches for images of “sex” and other related words were in states with the highest levels of religiosity and conservatism. Speculations were made as to why this would be. One suggestion was that the more religious folks, to save face in public, resorted to secret sin through the privacy of home internet.
Religion is great at producing creative sinners but rotten at getting rid of sin. Jesus does that, not religion.
The Jesus we get to bring to them does that.
Also, our area in TN has many churches, but many are “family churches”…meaning the only time they grow is when someone has a baby. The area, especially toward the mountains, is one of the poorest in the state and has a high level of meth production.
So, for all the natural beauty and church buildings, obviously God sees the need for the “opening of eyes” and “bringing them from the power of darkness to light.”
We’re taking the good news of a real…a conversational, interactive, and powerful…a really REAL God to them.
We are asking folks to give to fund the move to TN…because we believe that’s the way God wants to do it. Please pray about whether you are part of that. You can give here.
